Oh, and HC encourages me to learn more about the game! Intricacies of skills, monster spawns, areas to look out for, etc. If I completed it, the drive to do more would be diminished, right? I will never complete it, but that's okay. It's fun to tick things off in my spreadsheet, and makes any new find very enjoyable, even if they're not usable, per se. I have also started a grail quest, as others have written about. Perhaps it's cheesy to say this, but I can't find another way to word it. I love to immerse in the gritty atmosphere, and I feel like I "bond" with my characters more. For example, I am too impatient to play a Fishymancer, and I expected mine to die, so I took his great gear away and just ensured that I met the bare minimum, being max resists and a few cheap runewords.įor me, it really draws attention away from the "goal", because I know that I could die and set myself back-but this makes me enjoy the journey so much more. This has prompted me to give my less "cared about" characters less or no valuable items, so when they die, I don't lose much. Now I can experience the joy of getting my "first SoJ" again.Īnother thing about HC that I love is knowing that if you die, the gear you're wearing will be lost. Losing it weeks later when my character died was devastating, but that's all part of it. Finding my first SoJ on HC was an amazing moment. The thrill of achieving anything on HC is quite a lovely feeling. In hardcore, you have to be mindful while playing, think about your builds more carefully and critically, and choose your gear more deliberately to ensure a well-rounded character! I was in this boat a while back, and I found that the solution for me was to play Hardcore exclusively (PlugY).
